What is the Hyaluron Pen?
It is a needle-free injection can be used to create volume, shape and lift. This Hyaluron Pen is a needle-free device uses a simple spring mechanism to uniformly and quickly inject hyaluronic acid through the skin. The diameter of this microscopic hole is 0.17 mm, twice as small as the smallest insulin needle. The process is much more comfortable than a needle injection and with very little downtime. We use only the highest quality Hyaluron Pen devices "Premier Hyaluron Pen" along with their hyaluronic acid fillers. These are pure cross-linked hyaluronic acid filler of the highest quality and non-animal origin. It is created through the fermentation of the microorganism, Streptococcus equi.
Is it painful and what are the side effects?
We use numbing creams to ensure a comfortable experience. When compared to traditional injectables there is just about no pain at all. A slight snapping sensation can be experienced. There is very little sensitivity to be concerned about after the treatment and our clients normally just continue with their day as per usual. Each individual is unique and may experience this treatment a little differently. Other side effects that can be expected are mild and usually last less than 7 days. The most common side effects include temporary injection site reactions such as redness/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising and the reactivating of fever blisters. If you are prone to fever blisters then an anti-viral can be taken prior to your appointment to suppress the herpes simplex virus.
How long does the results last?
Firstly, let us start with how many sessions are needed to get a result that will last. Due to the way the Hyaluron Pen disperses the Hyaluronic acid into the skin (in a misting motion) we need to perform three treatments to 'build' up the hyaluronic acid. This means that you pay and commit to a package of three sessions, spaced 2-3 weeks apart to build up your initial result. Once you are happy with your result and have completed your three sessions, then the results can last anything between 3-9 months. Each individual is unique and your body will break down the filler differently. Various factors will influence this, such as:
- Amount of Hyaluronic acid used
- Area injected
- Previous fillers in the same area.
If it is your first time getting hyaluronic acid fillers in a certain area, always expect the product to have a shorter life span. You will need to build up the filler and moisture in the skin to help the filler to last longer. Especially if you are just starting fillers in a particular area. Longevity is cumulative. With each treatment, your results will last longer and longer.
Tips to help with retention/ longevity: Be extra, extra hydrated before your appointment and for the 2 weeks following the appointment. If you are drinking coffee or alcohol, drink twice as much water. Additionally, avoiding processed food and eating foods rich in vitamin K will also give your filler’s longevity a boost. I recommend you drink rehydrate the day of your appointment and for another two days following your appointment to ensure optimum hydration levels.
What is the difference between Hyaluron Pen and Injectables?
The hyaluron pen is completely non invasive and the depth that the filler goes into the skin is much shallower than with needles. The hyaluron pen, when compared to needles, significantly minimizes or eliminates risks of occlusion, infection and pain. The results that can be achieved using the Hyaluron Pen is more natural. If you currently have thin lips and are wanting to have big Kardashian lips, then you will be disappointment in the Hyaluron Pen. Injectables can create a more defined result than the pen can. Hyaluron Pen is most popular with Lips, but can also be used on wrinkles, nasolabial lines, marionette lines and for full face hydration.
Is there anyone that cannot be treated?
The following are considered contraindications.
Pregnant or breastfeeding
Under 18 years of age
Severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis
Active oral herpes
History of a compromised immune system
Undergoing immunosuppressive therapy
For 1 week prior avoid blood thinners & dehydrating substances like caffeine, alcohol, St. John’s Wart, Ginko Biloba, primrose oil, fish oil, vitamin E, aspirin, ibuprofen or similar products. They can cause bruising, bumps, more aggressive pinpoint marks & lack of volume.
For 1 week prior & 1 week after, avoid tretinoin, retinal, retinoids, glycolic acid, peels, skin sensitising products.
72 hours prior & 72 hours after, avoid highly processed foods as they greatly dehydrate the body. Instead, eat spinach, kale and celery the week before to boost your levels of Vitamin K.
Drink 1/2 Litres or more water daily for 48 hours hours before and after treatment. Hyaluronic Acid bonds to other Hyaluronic Acid and water. Rehydrate contains electrolytes, this will help restore your levels of hydration and help you retain the water that you are drinking. Drink a Rehydrate on the day of your treatment and another one per day for two days post treatment.
Arnica tablets/ creams / oils can be used after your treatment to help with any possible bruising.
24 hours prior and after avoid rigorous workouts. New fresh fillers need time to set so lots of water and lack of rigorous movement for 24 hours after is key.
Your aftercare kit should consist out of:
Moisturising lip balm containing a SPF, Arnica Oil, a few rehydrate sachets to boost hydration levels, drink lots and lots of water.
